Tag/Day 13.1 Post-Cruise nach der/after ISLAND PRINCESS in Denver, CO

Ich liebe die Bordkarten im Passbook auf dem iPhone. Was ich weniger liebe, wenn ständig die Gateänderungen kommen. Am Schluss sind wir wieder bei B5, wie mal ganz am Anfang schon geplant.



I love the boarding pass in the passbook on my iPhone. What I did not like so much, was the multiple changes of the departure gates. Finally we were back at B5 again - the original gate we had at the beginning.

A former Continental aircraft in which they added Economy Plus. This additional charge was worth to spend.



Das ist eine ehemalige Continental-Maschine, die mit Economy Plus nachgerüstet wurde. Dieser Zusatzbetrag war richtig gut angelegt.

Bei Continental gab es früher kostenlos noch etwas zu essen und einen Film. Alles vorbei, seitdem sie Teil von United sind.



You had then with Continental free food and free movie. Everything was gone since they was part of United.

Now you had to pay for the onboard entertainment.



Nun muss man für die Bordunterhaltung bezahlen.

Unser Abflug ist kurz nach Mitternacht.



Our departure was right after midnight.

Patricia and Johnny were on the same flight for their first portion.

Und dann entdecken wir ein Kreuzfahrtschiff beim Anflug auf Seattle.



And then we discovered a cruise ship when we approached for Seattle.

The WESTERDAM. I resigned on her, NORWEGIAN JEWEL and STAR PRINCESS for the favour of my connecting flight to Seattle. United changed so many times their schedule for our booking: Finally we had 15 minutes for the connection in Seattle. We only noticed because we checked from time to time the itinerary in the internet. So I called them and asked how they expected how it should work. Now a living agent checked the itinerary and saw that the computer only checked previous flight number with the new one (roughly same time but new flight numbers). So the computer did not notice that the flight from Anchorage to Seattle would go a little later and Seattle to Denver a little earlier. To relax the situation we prefered to be booked on a later flight to Denver.



Die WESTERDAM. Und auch auf die NORWEGIAN JEWEL und STAR PRINCESS verzichte ich, zu Gunsten des Weiterfluges nach Seattle. United hatte sooft die Flugpläne seit unserer Buchung geändert: Am Schluss hatten wir 15 Minuten für einen Umstieg in Seattle. Das bekam man nur mit, wenn man im Internet sich mal die Buchung angesehen hat. Da hatte ich dann angerufen, wie sie sich das eigentlich vorgestellt haben. Dann hatte sich mal ein Mensch die Buchung angesehen und festgestellt,dass der Computer uns immer auf die Nachfolgerflüge (die Flüge bekamen neue Nummern in vergleichbarer Zeitlage) gebucht hat, aber nicht darauf geachtet hatte, dass nun der Flug Anchorage - Seattle etwas später ging und der Flug Seattle - Denver etwas früher. So haben wir denen gesagt, dass wir keine Lust auf Stress haben und lieber direkt einen Flug später nehmen würden.

Hier trennen sich dann unsere Wege von Patricia und Johnny, die über Washington DC weiter nach Brüssel geflogen sind.



Now it was time to say good-bye to Patricia and Johnny who were on the way back to Brussels via Washington DC.

To relax we went to the Mountain Room Bar. Here we became whitness of a miricle healing. In Anchorage there was one passenger who did not look like that he need wheel chair assistance for boarding. But wanted to be first in the plane together with smaller children. Just before take-off the stewardess rearranged the overhead baggage to make sure that all larger bags fit into the overhead bins. He delayed the take-off by standing to re-arrange everything so his bags was exactly above him. He did not care if other guests might not find their bags once we supposed to arrive in Seattle. For him it counted only that his bags were above him and so he started to abused the flight attendants because they moved his litle bag (which fit perfectly under his front seat) to somewhere else. Here at the bar it was no problem for him to walk and to bully around the waitresses.



Wir gehen in Ruhe mal in die Mountain Room Bar. Hier werden wir Zeuge einer Wunderheilung. In Anchorage fiel uns ein Passagier auf, der eigentlich gar nicht so aussah, dass er mit einem Rollstuhl ins Flugzeug gebracht werden müsste. Aber er wollte wohl partout als allererster mit den kleinen Kindern in den Flieger. Im Flieger wurden die Gepäckstücke nochmals umgeräumt, damit alles passte. Und ausgerechnet sein Gepäckstück passte nun einmal besser in ein anderes Fach, damit mehr rein ging. Er hat dann kurzerhand den Start verzögert, weil er dann wundersamer Weise aufspringen konnte, um Gepäckstücke umzuräumen, damit sein Gepäckstück wieder über ihm war. Egal ob alle anderen jetzt ihr Gepäck nicht wiederfinden, wenn wir in Seattle landen. Hauptsache sein Gepäck war über ihm und er konnte die Stewardessen beschimpfen und sagen, was er davon hält, dass sein kleines Gepäckstück, das auch bequem unter dem Vordersitz gepasst hätte, umgeräumt wurde. Hier in der Bar konnte er wunderbar laufen und wieder die Kellnerinnen schikanieren.

Wir setzen uns in die Nähe des echten Kaminfeuers.

Before we went for breakfast everything was set up for gate A13 for our flight.



Vor dem Frühstück sehe ich, dass alles am Ausgang A13 für unseren Flug ausgeschildert ist.



During our breakfast United decided that we should depart from A10. No announcements, no information at A13 and no alert by e-mail, text or on Passbook although we set everything for push information. When we noticed it they started already with boarding. But our group was not paged yet.



Während des Frühstücks hat sich United jedoch entschlossen, dass es von A10 losgeht. Keine Ansagen, keine Hinweise bei A13 und keine Änderungen per E-Mail, SMS oder Passbook, obwohl alles eingerichtet war. Als wir das merken, hat das Einsteigen schon begonnen. Nur unsere Gruppe war zum Glück noch nicht aufgerufen.

Wollten die so freie Plätze für Standby-Plätze schaffen, damit ein paar nun bei A13 hängen bleiben.



Maybe they wanted to create some vacancies with guests stranded at gate A13.

That was made brilliant. You checked on your boarding pass which group you were and so you queued up that way.



Das ist super gemacht. Man guckt auf die Bordkarte, welche Gruppe man ist und dementsprechend stellt man sich an.

Die Probleme mit dem Gepäckfächern hatten wir dieses Mal nicht dank Kathy. Sie stand in der Mitte und hatte ihre Augen überall. Jedes Mal, wenn etwas nicht bündig im Gepäckfach stand oder anders gepasst hätte, ist sie sofort hingelaufen und hat es optimiert. Viele kleine Gepäckstücke hat sie direkt darum gebeten, unter dem Vordersitz zu stellen. Weil dann am Schluss jeder sein Gepäck untergebracht hatte und noch Platz war, bot sie den Gästen mit Gepäck unter dem Vordersitz noch an, es nach oben zu verstauen. Dadurch konnten die Gepäckfächer zügig geschlossen werden und wir pünktlich abfliegen. Als ich sie später darauf ansprach, wie toll ich das fand meinte sie bloß, dass sie immer früher Tetris gespielt hatte. Wie genial ist das denn? Ich wundere mich manchmal, dass unsere Lagerjungs beim Containerpacken etwas stehen lassen... Bei der nächsten Einstellungsrunde lasse ich sie alle Tetris spielen. Wer das beste Ergebnis hat, bekommt den Job.



The problem with the overhead bins we had not again because of Kathy. She stood in the center and had her eyes everywhere. Everytime someting was not stowed flushed she optimized the situation. With many small bags she asked everyone to stow it under the front-sat. So when she was ready to close the overhead bins to take off right on time there was so many space available that she could offer everyone to place their belongings into the bins instead of the space under the front seat. When I asked how she managed it she only said that she was Master of playing Tetris. How genious was that? I was surprised how my warehouse staff had problems to stow containers and something was left over... With the next hire I let them all play Tetris. Who get the best score get the job.

Here in Denver you even had planes flying under the ceiling...

Wir landen im Hochsommer in Denver und so brauchen wir erst mal etwas zu trinken.

Then we had to use the tram to get to the main terminal building.



Dann geht es erstmal mit der Bahn bis zum Hauptterminal.

Erst danach sind wir willkommen in Denver.



Finally we were welcomed to Denver.
