Andererseits ist es so: Solange die Fahrstühle auf Princess-Schiffen in vier Kreisen gesteuert werden, muss man schon viermal drücken, um die nächste Fahrtmöglichkeit zu nutzen. Dafür folgen noch drei Fahrstühle, die unnötigerweise auch nochmals einhalten, obwohl man schon längst weg ist.Ich liebe die Medaillons. Und ich hasse sie. Sie erleichtern einem schon das Leben, weil man, bevor man die Tür erreicht, sie bereits aufgeschlossen wird und man nicht erst lange nach der Karte am Körper suchen muss, aber gleichzeitig bedeutet das auch, dass sie (die Crew und auch meine Mitreisenden) sehen, wo ich mich aufhalte. Princess ist nichts für Leute, die großen Wert auf den deutschen Datenschutz legen. Immerhin steht unser voller Name nicht mehr an der Tür.

Das wird wie folgt übersetzt: "Datenschutz bitte". "Service-Kabine". Wir haben mit den Steckdosen viel Glück: obwohl das Schiff seinen Basishafen in England hat: eine englische Steckdose habe ich gar nicht gefunden, aber dafür doch mehr Eurosteckdosen. Meine Sharpbox, mit der ich meine Nadeln sicher entsorgen kann, kommt ebenfalls sofort.Der Papierkram hält sich in Grenzen.

Since we booked the Princess Plus package, I can use the cabin service free of charge. The chicken soup is very tasty. The Caesar salad could be improved.

We're going to Horizon Court for lunch. Right – it's not there anymore. Now it's called Worldfresh Marketplace — a "normal" selection, like we're used to on the newest ships. I finish with a piece of soft-serve ice cream, in memory of my father, who loved it. Wir gehen zum Horizon Court zum Mittagessen. Stimmt – den gibt es ja nicht mehr. Jetzt heißt er Worldfresh Marketplace. Ein "normales" Angebot, so wie wir es auf den neuesten Schiffen kennen. Am Schluss nehme ich ein Stück Softeis. Zum Gedenken an meinen Vater, der es geliebt hat.Im Dessert-Flügel gibt es eine kleine Kaffeebar mit einer Barista-Maschine. Sie haben laktosefreie Milch, aber leider keinen Zuckersirup für meinen Iced Cappuccino. Da er hier allein ist, kann er mir keinen holen, aber er weiß, wo ich einen bekommen kann.
In the dessert wing, there's a small coffee bar with a barista-style espresso machine. They have lactose-free milk, but unfortunately, no sugar syrup for my iced cappuccino. Since he's working alone, he can't get any for me, but he knows where I can find some.The selection at the International Café is always excellent: savory or sweet – there's something for everyone. Thankfully, the special desserts (those huge, colorful, and completely covered ice cream sundaes) are no longer included in the Princess Plus package. They had the cakes on display here. I used Facebook groups to find someone who could suggest a personalization idea for embarkation day. Princess herself couldn't do it. So I looked for someone who travels back-to-back and could place an order for me. Only Linda helped. I thanked her warmly for that. But it was also a great way to distinguish the good groups from the not-so-good ones: one group admin suggested I might be trying to cheat the group members. Others gave great tips on how to transport cakes on board and which bakery in Southampton I could pre-order a cake from. Or how to get decorations on board to personalize the cake myself. Since it was a surprise and I hadn't intended to bring a cake on board, I was glad Linda handled it so well. And she has great taste. She chose the most beautiful and delicious cake of all. That's what you call karma. Later, I saw that she also needed support to get something for herself. When I read that, it was my chance to help her too. "Pay it forward."
Das Angebot im International Café ist auch immer sehr gut: Herzhaft oder süß – für jeden Geschmack ist etwas dabei. Zum Glück nicht mehr Bestandteil des Princess Plus-Packages: die Sonderdesserts (= diese komplett überzogenen, bunten Rieseneisbecher). Hier haben sie die Torten ausgestellt. Über die Facebook-Gruppen suchte ich jemanden, der mir für den Tag der Einschiffung eine Personalisierung vorschlagen sollte. Princess selbst konnte es nicht. Ich habe daher jemanden gesucht, der back-to-back reist und eine Bestellung für mich aufgeben kann. Nur Linda hat geholfen. Dafür habe ich mich auch bei ihr herzlich bedankt. Aber da konnte man auch sehr gut die tollen Gruppen von den weniger tollen Gruppen auseinanderhalten: Ein Gruppenadmin meinte, ich würde die Gruppenmitglieder möglicherweise betrügen. Und andere gaben tolle Tipps, wie ich Kuchen an Bord transportieren kann und bei welchem Bäcker in Southampton ich eine Torte vorbestellen kann. Oder wie man Dekomaterial an Bord bekommt, um die Torte noch selbst zu personalisieren. Da es sich um eine Überraschung handelte und ich auch nicht die Absicht hatte, eine Torte an Bord zu bringen, war ich froh, dass Linda sich so toll verhalten hat. Und sie hat einen tollen Geschmack. Sie hat die schönste und leckerste aller Torten ausgewählt. Das nennt man Karma. Später sehe ich, dass sie auch Unterstützung braucht, um etwas für sich zu beschaffen. Als ich das gelesen habe, war es für mich die Chance, ihr auch zu helfen. "Pay it forward".Auch hier besteht die Seenotrettungsübung aus Filmchen gucken (es wird ja überwacht, ob du es gesehen hast oder nicht), dann zur Sammelstelle gehen und registrieren lassen.

Damals gab es noch den berühmt-berüchtigten Sky- bzw. Sea-Walk. Das war damals eine Innovation. Kleines Problem: Die Bewohner der Balkonkabinen fanden es weniger komisch, dass jeder, der oben herumlief, ihnen dabei zusehen konnte, was sie auf den Balkonen gerade machen. Daher gibt es diesen Gang auf späteren Nachfolgeschiffen nicht mehr wie hier auf der SKY PRINCESS. Back then, there was the infamous Skywalk/Seawalk. It was quite an innovation at the time. The only problem was that the occupants of the balcony cabins weren't too thrilled that anyone walking around above could see what they were doing on their balconies. That's why this walkway is no longer available on later ships, like on SKY PRINCESS.As an alternative to the show program, Princess also offers a large cinema screening on the open deck. Popcorn is always available. The deck chairs are now arranged so that you have a great view of the big screen, and a blanket is provided to keep you warm.

Die Liegen sind jetzt so angeordnet, dass man schön auf die große Leinwand gucken kann und eine Decke liegt bereit, um sich warm einzumümmeln.Ich gucke mal im SB-Restaurant, was hier abends angeboten wird. So auf den ersten Blick sieht es fast so aus wie das Mittagsangebot. Sie haben auch ein großes Kinderbüffet für den "einfacheren" Geschmack, das aber gerne von Erwachsenen geplündert wird.

Aber da wir so ein tolles Team haben, das uns bedient, hätten wir uns auch mit Brot und Wasser zufriedengegeben: Vinoth, Ray und Basnet.Meine Mutter hatte vor drei Tagen Geburtstag und meine Nichte wurde vor zwei Tagen volljährig: in Deutschland 18 – in den USA 21. Dennoch steht sie im System als Kind ohne Zugang zum Alkohol drin. Es reicht nicht aus, dass ihr Vater daneben sitzt und dem Genuss von Alkohol zustimmt. Sie müssen das IT-System überlisten, damit sie als 18-Jährige als Erwachsene behandelt wird und Alkohol erhält. Noch witziger ist die Princess-App: Die Nutzung muss durch einen Erziehungsberechtigten freigeschaltet werden, aber wenn er es will, bedeutet das, dass die Anfrage von einem Volljährigen keiner Zustimmung eines Erziehungsberechtigten bedarf. Und dann kam die Überraschung. Die Schokoladen-Mokka-Torte und darauf "Happy 104 (86+18)". Beide haben sich darüber gefreut. Schön, dass es so geklappt hat. Das war schon mal ein toller Anfang für eine gemeinsame Reise.
My mother had her birthday three days ago, and my niece turned 18 two days ago: 18 in Germany – 21 in the US. Yet, in the system, she's still listed as a child with no access to alcohol. It's not enough for her father to be sitting next to her and approve of her drinking. They have to trick the IT system so that, at 18, she's treated as an adult and can get alcohol. Even funnier is the Princess app: its use has to be activated by a parent or guardian, but if they do, it means a request from an adult doesn't require parental approval. And then came the surprise. The chocolate mocha cake with "Happy 104 (86+18)" written on it. They were both delighted. It's wonderful that it worked out so well. That was a great start to a journey together.
