Tag/Day 4 auf der/on DIAMOND PRINCESS in Nha Trang, Vietnam

 border=0

What I liked very much: when I was swimming on my back, I could see on the glass roof if I was swimming a straight line.

At this time of the day, you should not try to calculate the ratio of a 16:9 picture from a 4:3. You only get nonsense as results.

 border=0

One fellow swimmer lost the jewel of his ring in the pool. Unfortunately, I left my swimming glasses in the bath rope of the Inter-Continental Singapore. So I was unable to help him. Sad to know: the crew was a little helpless to, and so it took a while until someone came and said: I could try to help. The pool was on the direct way from the crew-area to the Horizon. Most told him to see the front desk. But he was only in a swimming cloth and just lost his jewel. I was sure that this was not the answer he liked to hear. There should be some other, who would find a supervisor and let him make some thoughts.

Later I learned that they had no diving glasses on board since a robot would come to the cleaning of the pool. They did not find the jewel, he told me a few days later. But he was happy that at least I tried to help.

 border=0

With our dragon fruit we went into the restaurant. Charades and Katarina offered us such an excellent service that we shared our dragon fruit with them.

Arriving in Nha Trang, Vietnam.

 border=0

Ankunft in Nha Trang.

 border=0

We should dock here on ZAANDAM 2012 and celebrate my birthday here. But it was impossible then. So my birthday cake should be still in the freezer. So I had to leave the ship. I read a lot of the cable car.

Somehow it was still hazy.

 border=0

Irgendwie noch sehr dunstig.

Wir wollen nie so früh von Bord. Deswegen geht es zunächst in The Sanctury.

 border=0

We never wanted to leave the ship so early. So we went first to The Sanctuary.

As usual, I took a picture of the agent that you always had the contact details with you.

 border=0

 border=0

We we arrived at the tender ticket outlet we got number 19. But they called so fast that we could not even take a seat.

Quickly we were escorted downstairs.

 border=0

Schnell werden wir runtergeführt.

Das sind ja tolle Tenderboote mit Außensitzplätzen.

 border=0

Those were wonderful tender boats with exterior seats.

So we could take some nice external pictures of the DIAMOND PRINCESS from our tender-boat station.

 border=0

 border=0

Later on the way back the sight condition were much more better.

 border=0

 border=0

15:30 hrs the last tender would return.

 border=0

15:30 Uhr geht der letzte Tender zurück.

Kein echtes Cruise Terminal. Ein paar Zelte.

 border=0

Not a real cruise terminal. A few tents.

Here, they offered also a complimentary shuttle.

 border=0

Es gibt auch hier einen kostenlosen Shuttle.

Wir müssen nach draußen.

 border=0

We need to go outside.

We booked our tour with Vietnam Real Travel. On time they were waiting for us at the exit. A nice bus. Water and refreshment towels. When the others asked for maps, they just stopped and bought some at the curbside. A lot of advertising in Russian was attracting our attention.

We walked over the Tran Puh Bridge. Accidentally, we met on the bridge other fellow-cruisers from the ship. The world was tiny. At the other end of the bridge, we were picked up again.

We headed to a place which I could not repeat by name. I checked all the words which I found on my pictures in Google later, but I could not find anything. The best that would fit was something I found on Google Maps: Thu pháp Thanh Phong. No idea what would the name of this place: I liked it. Outside but also in the shop. Typically, I hate tours when I would be taken to such sites. But I loved the sand paintings so much, that I bought one for home. If I researched correctly, the name of the shop was: Tranh Cát Hong Châu Sa.

Next, we change the building. Here they had a music presentation which others of the group liked so much, that they bought a CD to listen again at home. The phrase: „The heart has no space for hate“ came from our tour guide. I would like to introduce him later in the chapter.

We went out to the terrace. A nice view. We really would love to take a Vietnamese coffee but our time did not allow it.

Then we headed to the rock.

Right after that, we went to the ancient Hindu temple Po Nagar. Here it would be the best occasion to introduce our tour guide: Le Dong. He was not just telling us something on temple dance but also presented how it was formed. Furthermore, he had hidden a piece of choke to paint the shape of Vietnam on the ground to explain some contexts. And we learned something of Vietnamese language.

We went up. Busy like in an amusement park.

You got some garment to enter the temple.

Trung tâm Thuong Mai - this market was the next, we were visiting. Since went before on such a market in Ho-Chi-Minh-City, we personally could not take it for this moment. The others of the group used the time to buy some cheap clothes. Furthermore, we bought a cup filter for Vietnamese coffee.

Frances would like to buy some Mangostane, and so our guide took us to the fruit market.

We wanted to buy some coffee. Obviously, they offered a Vietnamese version of the Kopi-Luwak-coffee, which most might know from the movie „The Bucket List“ with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. Instead of the Indonesian civet (cat), it might be a kind of weasel, who was in charge to aromatize the coffee. I Germany, I had already to pay about 100 USD for a little bag. Here we paid about 6 USD per pound.

We went to lunch which was included in the price of the tour. So sad, since I really would love to have a Vietnamese noodle soup for lunch. At the end of the trip, I made personal acquaintance with Phan Quoc Dat, who made all arrangements for us.

Many nail studios in Germany were operated by Vietnamese. I saw many of them in the touristic quarters. But here in the port area, there was not any bright illuminated advertising in English or Russian. So I had to ask. And someone sent me into the little lane. Our group started to follow me, but suddenly they disappeared. Later on board, we learned: neither they were hijacked nor were robbed. So long. For 5 USD incl. a head massage I got my manicure, as far as you could call it that. But such little adventures were rounding up the experiences of your voyage.

A selfie of MY DIAMOND PRINCESS.

 border=0

In the queue we met again Brian and Jerry, whom we knew from the cruisecritic.com-Meeting. So while we were waiting for the tender boat, I was accidentally telling of our pop-choir. Brian was also singing in a choir, and recently he sang the songs of Sound of Music and would love to join us.

That day we got the wet towels.

 border=0

Heute gibt es dann die Feuchttücher.

In der Lobby probt ein "Teufelsgeiger": Christopher Watkins.

 border=0

In the lobby they had the rehearsal of the „violinist of the devil“: Christopher Watkins.

It was a lot of fun.

 border=0

Hat viel Spaß gemacht.

Ich bin schon auf seine Show gespannt.

 border=0

I was curious to see his show.

A significant positive surprise: a big minus point so far with Princess: The coffee - even the one you had to pay for. On OCEAN PRINCESS 2015 we did not like it. Here we found out: apparently they had a new brand and a new menu. Bruno bought a coffee card. Obviously, Princess was listening to the claims of the customer.

 border=0

We wanted to use a little time The Sanctuary. It looked like that they were expecting us for tea-time.

But now I understood that the Captain on ZAANDAM 2012 meant then: Nha Trang had stronger winds in the afternoon which would not allow a safe tender boat operation. Luckily, we left already, when it started. Here in The Sanctuary, many items were blowing away.

 border=0

Hier fliegt schon fast alles weg in The Sanctuary.

Ich genieße es, dass es frischer ist.

 border=0

I enjoyed it, since it was more refreshing.

Let us see when we visit next time Nha Trang.

 border=0

 border=0

A quick step into the Elite Lounge.

It was annoying that you had in the Japanese menu only the name of the cocktail but no explanations.

 border=0

 border=0

So I asked for a an English menu.

Strange: all others got a sheet of paper regarding the visa-fee for Vietnam. But our mailbox stayed empty. Nothing was in our cabin either. In the letter it was about that would like to charge 25 USD administration fee for arranging the visa. They had some protests on board because they did not announce it before to enable that guests might get themselves the visa. It was also a discussion on the Meet and Greet. An Australian fellow-cruiser attacked the Guest Service Manager why they would charge if they could have eVisa. It was me, who was protecting the Guest Service Manager and explained that it only applied to entries via the four international airports and you need a visa agency as well, who would take money for that. Indeed we were happy, to get an additional „refund“ of 50 USD. Actually, they deserve this money. On CELEBRITY MILLENNIUM 2014 they did not charge anything, but they did not do anything for you - only releasing the forms. But here it was well organized: merely sign and ready. By the way, I asked the front desk why I could not also get a copy of the letter. This was impossible to explain. And when I asked to have a copy of the letter to find out if this would apply to me too, I was told again that this was naturally impossible either. Where was the sofa that I could show up with blanket and pillow, to make this front desk listening.

 border=0

We had good memories on Sterling Steakhouse. But not recently on OCEAN PRINCESS 2015 due to lack of service and quality and unfortunately, again here on DIAMOND PRINCESS. The problem: The Sterling Steakhouse was part of the Horizon which was separated in the evening and set up accordingly. A huge problem: The galley was so far away that all food arrived with a plastic cover and you did not experience an elegant atmosphere. At the entrance, they showed you the raw meat. All like in a self-service restaurant. On the other side, they also showed the raw meat, and they grilled it for you à la minute. No one was showing up with a trolley or with a silver tray, once you took your seats in silence. And it was breezy everywhere because the outdoor bar was in charge to supply the beverages and the door stayed all the time open. Right at the door, there was the service station. One minute waiting and everything was cold. Somehow the crew could not handle my concerns. Furthermore, they came so quickly to your table after serving, to ask if everything was alright before you had a single chance to have one bite. And when you need someone of them, they did not appear again. Since I had a smaller stomach, the first shot needed to be a hit. Serving a new portion was not helpful since I had no more capacity. Since we had a perfect time with Raffaele in the Sterling Steakhouse on OCEAN PRINCESS 2010, I was speaking with him on this matter. Sad: this was one of the few bad impressions we would take home from this voyage. Raffaele asked us to come and see Sabatini to show us that they could do it much better.
