Tag/Day 3.3 auf der/on GRAND PRINCESS in Le Havre, France

In front of the tourist office there is a taxi stand but actually it was not occupied. So we remembered the number of the radio taxi office to order later a car.

In the tourist office, they supply us with all information we need of Le Havre - even in German.

Furthermore we got some information more on St. Joseph which was only available in French.

It was very nice here: toilets and internet-access. They offered us to call us a taxi if we need one later today and none is here.

But it is a 40-minutes-walk from the cruise terminal.

From here the tourist-train departs. But on days when a cruise ship is in town few departures are leaving from a different place (Place Perret). As we had today no time to do the tour we have no idea where the other site is located.

After a walk of ten minutes we arrived at St. Joseph.

Unfortunately you cannot walk up the tower because inside it's all hollow.

We were looking for a French Patisserie but most stores are closed Monday the whole day or the morning. Only condoms could be purchased at the vending machine.

Then we found a bakery and patisserie with a great smell facing us.

Unfortunately there was no café.

One chocolatier after the other followed.

Ein Chocolatier nach dem anderen folgt.

Aber alle haben noch geschlossen.

But all of them were closed.

Somehow the visit in this town was not very pleasant when all shops were closed.

We arrived at the Resistance Square.

Somehow it reminded me of East-Berlin's giant buildings which were built in the era of Stalin.

But this was due to the substantial destruction of the historical city center that here it looked different from other French cities and most of the town is part of the UNESCO world heritage.

Now we were reminded that were not in East-Berlin but somewhere in France.

Finally we found an open cafße and I took an Orangina. In France, it is quite "normal" that you get your ticket on a small plate and you pay at the bar.

Memories were back from the childhood. I guess that I had not had it for about 35 years.

Erinnerung an Kindheitstagen.

So you just leave a little change for the waiter after you paid.

Finally a good coffee for Bruno.

Endlich ein guter Kaffee für Bruno.

Und wieder ein geschlossenes Schokoladengeschäft.

And one more closed chocolate store.

Another store which was open but useless for us: a flower shop.

We need to remember that you might have different parking rules for the different side of a sidewalk.

There was our ship.

Dort liegt bereits unser Schiff.

Die VILLE DE FECAMP.

The VILLE DE FECAMP.

In the beginning, Bruno was also sitting outdoor, but it was too cold and windy.

I stayed at the bow. With us, there was a group of French seniors. One lady had no understanding that I was not very much interested in the port although I was on a port cruise: 1. I worked for many years for a shipbroker in Hamburg, and so port activities are nothing special to me; 2. the announcements are in French, and my language skills are not so good that I understand the maritime vocabulary and 3. I was only because of the cruise ships onboard.

Thankfully we noted the phone number of the taxi company so we could easily order a car to the pier of the port cruise. It was about 10.00 EUR back to the ship, and once we arrived we had to pass security which was the souvenir place again.

But in total it was a nice day in Le Havre.
