Tag/Day 1.2 auf der/on GRAND PRINCESS in Southampton, England

Nun Marchwood liegt nur wenige Minuten von Hythe. Wir wollen dort mal auf die Fähre, um besser die OCEANA fotografieren zu können. Da wir aber eh direkt vor dem Maples Hotel parken, wollen wir schnell Shirley und Godfrey Guten Tag sagen. Normalerweise übernachten wir dort immer. Aber bei der Ankunftszeit gestern Abend wollten wir nicht erst noch nach Hythe fahren. Außerdem wussten wir, dass sie während der Southampton Boat Show eh immer ausgebucht sind.



Marchwood is just few minutes away from Hythe. We wanted to go on the ferry anyway to get better pictures of the OCEANA. But we had to park anyway in front of Maples Hotel, so we wanted to say hello to Shirley and Godfrey. Normally we always stay there overnight. But due to arrival time last night we did not want to drive to Hythe anymore. And we knew that they are sold out anyway during the Southampton Boat Show.

Shirley joy was tremendous and as usual we got a warm welcome even we do not stay there overnight.



Shirleys Freude ist groß und wie immer werden wir sehr herzlich begrüßt, auch wenn wir dort nicht übernachten.

Als wir erzählen, dass wir bereits Geld in die Parkuhr gesteckt haben, werden wir von Shirley ausgeschimpft, weil wir doch wüssten, dass sie über Parkausweise verfügen. Als sie ganz enttäuscht war, dass sie uns nicht mal mit dem Parkausweis uns einen Gefallen tun konnte, fragen wir nach einer Tasse Tee. Wir erzählen, dass wir bald mit unseren Eltern nach Venedig fahren und schon holt Shirley ihren Reiseführer heraus und gibt uns ein paar Tipps. Wie schade, dass sie 2014 in den Ruhestand wollen. Sie suchen einen Nachfolger... Das wäre vielleicht das richtige für mich: Shipspotten Tag und Nacht... aber 7 Tage die Woche Arbeiten... Vielleicht überlege ich es mir.



When we told that we already paid for parking Shirley was upset that we did not ask them as they have parking permissions available. She was very disappointed that she even could not offer us the parking permissions, so we asked for a cup of tea. We told that we soon will be in Venice with our parents and promptly Shirley got her guidebooks and gave us many recommendations. I am so sorry to hear that they would like to retire in 2014. They are looking for a successor... Maybe that would be the right for me: Shipspotting day and night... but working on seven days a week... Perhaps I should consider once more.

As we have lovely sunshine, we looked a little around in Hythe. We never saw this cemetery before because we always walked on the other side of the street.



Im strahlenden Sonnenschein gucken wir uns nochmals in Hythe um. Den Friedhof haben wir bislang noch nie gesehen, weil wir immer auf der anderen Straßenseite langegangen sind.

As we will not go so quickly on our ship and it was noon, I just grab a pastry which smiled at me in the window.



Da wir jetzt nicht so schnell auf das Schiff gehen und schon Mittag ist, hole ich mir schnell eine Pastete, die mich im Fenster anlacht.

Due to the boat show, we did want to go ashore and just turned around.



Wegen der Boat-Show verzichten wir darauf an Land zu gehen und drehen direkt um.

Ich warte wie üblich auf die Bahn, während Bruno läuft.



I usually waited for the train while Bruno walked.

Somehow it is always cute to use this little pier train.



Es ist einfach irgendwie immer wieder niedlich mit der Bahn zu fahren.

Und dann überholen wir doch Bruno.



Finally we passed Bruno who walked all the boardwalk.

I booked a car for 14.00 hrs to collect us at Europcar (partner of National - Alamo), but we were stuck in traffic congestion due to Southampton Boat Show. So I rescheduled the booking to 14.30 hrs. First, we dropped off our bags at the Mayflower Terminal and wanted to exit to Gate 8 because you are then just behind Europcar, but the gate is closed due to Boat Show.



Für 14.00 Uhr habe ich das Taxi für die Abholung bei Europcar bestellt, aber wir hängen im Stau von der Southampton Boat Show. Sicherheitshalber bestelle ich das Taxi auf 14.30 Uhr um. Wir bringen zunächst das Gepäck zum Mayflower Terminal und wollen am Tor 8 raus, weil man direkt hinter Europcar dann ist, aber leider ist das Tor wegen der Boat Show geschlossen.

Ich hatte versucht anzurufen, aber da lief nur der Anrufbeantworter, dass bis 13:00 Uhr geöffnet sei, obwohl im Internet drin steht, dass sie bis 16:00 Uhr geöffnet hätten.



I tried to call them, but there was only a voicemail available that they are open until 13:00 hrs although it was announced on their website that they should be available until 16:00 hrs.

But actually, they are open until 16:00 hrs on Saturday.



Sie haben doch bis 16:00 Uhr samstags geöffnet.

Kostenloser Hol- und Bringdienst gibt es nicht für die Kreuzfahrtgäste. Die Station am Hafen gilt nur für Kunden, die einen Wagen abholen wollen und nur für das City Center Terminal. Nicht jedoch für die anderen drei Terminals.



There is no free pick-up or delivery for cruise guests. The station at the port is only available for pick-ups and only for the City Center Terminal. But not for the three other terminals.

Maybe I should alternate more with Hertz which were only next block. Avis was no more available at Gate 8.



Vielleicht sollte ich mich mal mit Hertz auseinandersetzen, die nur zwei Häuser weiter sind. Avis gibt es wohl am Tor 8 nicht mehr.

Dorothy hatte uns bei der Buchung der Garantiekabine auf Basis eingeschränkte Sicht gesagt, dass sie versuchen würde, dass zumindest die Sichteinschränkung wegfallen könnte. Allerdings waren wir verwundert, dass wir dadurch grüne Bordkarten mit Priorität bekommen.



Dorothy recommended us to book a GTY obstructed view as she could try to get away the obstruction. But we were surprised that you get new green boarding pass with priority.

The ride from Europcar to Mayflower Terminal by West Quay Cars was a little more than 5.00 GBP. As usually, they arrive very punctual and liable. But you must pre-book them. They do not accept walk-ins. When we delivered our bags one hour before we had to carry our bags ourselves. The porters preferred to have their break and did not come to our car to collect it.



Die Fahrt von Europcar zum Mayflower Terminal hat mit West Quay Cars etwas mehr als 5,00 GBP gekostet. Sie haben uns wieder sehr zuverlässig und pünktlich abgeholt. Allerdings muss man sie vorbestellen. Sie arbeiten nicht auf Zuruf. Als wir eine Stunde vorher das Gepäck abgegeben haben, mussten wir es selbst schleppen. Die Gepäckträger haben lieber ihre Zigarettenpause gemacht und sind nicht gekommen, um unser Gepäck am Auto abzuholen.

Als wir gegen 14:45 Uhr ankommen ist es ziemlich leer. Trotz grüner Bordkarte, meinte die 1. Kontrolle: es sei ja nur eine kurze Schlange und dass wir ruhig warten könnten. Die 2. Kontrolle sah sofort die grünen Bordkarten und führte uns direkt zu einem freien Schalter und entschuldigte sich dafür, dass wir anstehen sollten. Als Gast, der ja durch ein Upgrade zu dem Priveleg kommt, steht es mir nicht zu mich darüber zu ärgern. Aber als Gast, der dafür bezahlt hat oder das Privileg verdient hat, hat es mich damals bei der NORWEGIAN DREAM 2008 in Boston schon geärgert, dass ich deswegen eine Stunde länger warten musste, nur weil die 1. Kontrolle die besten Kunden einer Gesellschaft nicht wert schätzen kann, weil es nicht bekannt ist.



When we arrived around 14:45 hrs it was quite calm. Even we had green boarding cards the first check said that it was only a short queue and we could wait. The second check saw our green boarding cards and took us immediately to a vacant counter and apology for asking us to queue. As a guest who did not pay for the privilege but just got a complimentary upgrade, I was not entitled to be angry. But as paying guest or a guest who earned this privilege by loyalty, I was quite angry when we boarded NORWEGIAN DREAM 2008 in Boston and had to wait one hour more because the first check cannot identify the cruise company's best customers.

We were more or less the very last. Until 16:30 hrs you need to be on board.



Wir sind aber fast die Letzten. Bis 16:30 Uhr müssen alle an Bord sein.

Am Schalter gibt es nur einen Plan für beide. Auch auf Anfrage bekommen wir kein weiteres. Den Reisepass hätten wir zu Hause lassen können. Personalausweis mit Lesezeile für den Computer hätte auch genügt für diese Reise.



At the desk you can only get one map. Even you ask for one more you cannot get one. We did not need our passports as our German ID-cards are readable by machines and the itinerary would not request a passport for Germans.

Not like with others: you get only the card according to your loyalty tier - no difference which category you booked.



Im Gegensatz zu anderen Gesellschaften, gibt es nur Karten gemäß Status: egal welche Kategorie man gebucht hat.

In drei Tagen sind wir dann hier, um unser Gepäck zu suchen und schon geht es an Bord. Keine Handdesinfektion und das Foto wird erst beim Betreten des Schiffs gemacht.



In three days we are back here again to look for our bags but for now we are going on board. No hand sanitizing and they take the pictures once you are entering the ship.
