Tag/Day 0.1 vor der/before ROYAL PRINCESS in Southampton, England

Das fing schon mal gut an! Alle Flüge gebucht und Princess teilt uns mit, dass wir zwei Stunden später ankommen. Für 14.45 Uhr ab London City Airport ist man aber nicht bereit, etwas für uns zu arrangieren, weil sie meinen, dass es reicht. Ansonsten wurde man wie üblich sehr gut von Princess vor der Reise informiert.



You could not say that it started very well! All flights were booked, and Princess informed that you supposed to arrive two hours later. But for 14.45 hrs out of London City Airport, they were not willing to make any special arrangements for us as they said it should be fine for us. But besides this, you were very well informed before your sailing.

But that was the smallest of my problems: Due to the flood disasters at the river Elbe I had no chance to get directly from Brunswick (where I am working) to Hanau (where Bruno is working).



Aber das ist noch das geringste meiner Probleme: Das Elbe-Hochwasser sorgt dafür, dass ich nicht direkt von Braunschweig (wo ich in der Nähe arbeite) nach Hanau (wo Bruno in der Nähe arbeitet) komme.

Ich muss daher erst mal gucken, wie ich nach Hannover komme und dort stehen alle Züge auf Verspätung.



So I need first find a way to get to Hanover and there all trains were delayed.

With a delay of 15 minutes, I started out of Hanover.



Mit 15 Minuten Verspätung geht es in Hannover los.

Und bereits in Göttingen bleiben wir stehen, weil vor uns ein Zug liegengeblieben ist, der nun rückwärts nach Göttingen kommt und dessen Fahrgäste wir aufnehmen müssen: 40 Minuten. Dabei bleibt es zum Glück. Mit Bruno treffe ich mich am Terminal 2 am Frankfurter Flughafen und wir geben zunächst das Gepäck auf. Leider hat das Einchecken mit dem iPhone App gar nicht geklappt und keiner von British Airways kann die Probleme lösen. So müssen wir klassisch am Schalter einchecken. Danach bringen wir erst den Wagen zum Platzhirsch Parkhaus. Dort stellen wir fest, dass sie das System geändert haben: Vorausbuchungen werden nicht mehr mit Kreditkarte eingelesen. Aber wir wollten sowieso mit dem Tarif für Bahnkunden dort parken. Als wir den Wagen abholen bietet man uns jedoch an, dass wir ein Sonderangbot nutzen sollten, das günstiger ist als der Bahntarif.



And at the next stop in Göttingen we stuck because another train stuck ahead of us and which need to return backward to Göttingen and their passengers need to transfer to our train: 40 minutes delay. I had luck as it stayed with this delay. I should meet Bruno at Terminal 2 at Frankfurt airport and should check-in first the bags. Unfortunately, I had trouble to check-in on my iPhone due to a malfunction of British Airways' App, and none of them could solve the problem. So we had to check-in the classical way at the counter. Then we moved the car to Platzhirsch Parkhaus, a off-airport parking. There we found out that they changed their systems and you cannot use the credit cards anymore to identify for your pre-bookings. But anyhow we wanted to use the special fare for rail passengers. When we later collected the car, the offered us to use a special bargain which was cheaper than the rail fare.

For Bruno, we need to buy a new backpack with Lufthansa World Shop before we headed to Terminal 2 and escaped into the Sakura Lounge of Japan Air Lines.

But somehow you could fee that Japan Air Lines by-passed the bankruptcy. All convenience.



Irgendwie merkt man aber, dass JAL am Konkurs vorbeigeschlittert ist. Alles Convenience.

Und so ziemlich die blligsten Sandwiches, die man herstellen kann.

I only wanted to see the restrooms. Not because I had a need just because I wanted to know if you could jet such a Japanese luxury toilet flush also in German standards.



Ich suche die Toilette auf. Nicht weil ich muss, sondern weil ich mich damit beschäftige, ob man nun eine japanische Toilettenspülung auch in DIN-Norm erhält.

Das mattgebürstete Metall passt nicht so gut in unser Bad... Aber ein deutscher Aufdruck heißt doch sicherlich, dass es einen deutschen Importeur geben muss.



Somehow the satin stainless steel style did not fit to our bathroom... A German instruction sheet should mean that there might be a German importer.

Unfortunately, our flight was extremely delayed, and one departure was already canceled. So there were more or less three flights ready for London at the same time.



Leider ist unser Flug ziemlich verspätet und ein Flug ist bereits gestrichen. So stehen drei Flüge quasi fast zeitgleich zum Abflug nach London bereit.

Es gibt am Glaceau VitaminWater. Sogar noch billiger als am Kölner Hauptbahnhof obwohl wir uns im monopolistischen Bereich hinter der Security befinden.

At this time they announced 40 minutes delay. But that was 10 minutes ahead of departure and before two more buses need to go to the aircraft. This time we went by British Airways because Lufthansa was too expensive around the days we need.



Zu diesem Zeitpunkt waren 40 Minuten angekündigt. Das war aber 10 Minuten vor Abflug und bevor noch zwei weitere Busse zum Flugzeug fahren... Dieses sind wir mit British Airways geflogen, weil Lufthansa für diese Tage zu teuer war.

Neben uns steht eine Maschine der British Airways in Sonderbemalung "The Dove" (Die Taube). Anlässlich der Olympischen Spiele 2012 in London hat sie die Olympische Fackel transportiert.

For a little more money they offered us an upgrade to Club Europe (Business Class) which was accepted by us promptly.



Für sehr wenig Geld wurde uns ein Upgrade in Club Europe (Business Class) wieder angeboten. Das habe ich natürlich sofort angenommen.

Nur haben sie uns mal wieder umgesetzt.



But they re-seated us again.

I love "Asterix in Switzerland", and so I live my "passion for tidiness". I always used the hot towel to clean the foldable tables and armrests. We had the same company cleaning at our office so I knew very well how liable they were.



 Ich spiele "Asterix in der Schweiz" und lebe meinen "Reinlichkeitsfimmel" aus. Saunatücher nutze ich immer um die Klapptische und Armlehnen zu reinigen. Die Zuverlässigkeit der Flugzeugreinigungsfirma kenne ich, da sie auch bei uns in der Firma tätig sind...

Der Pilot kommt raus und entschuldigt sich persönlich im Angesicht seiner Gäste, dass die Maschine leider den Slot verloren hat und nun bis ca. 22.00 Uhr warten muss, bevor sie einen neuen Slot bekommt. Er erklärt uns, dass am Vortag einige Maschinen wegen des Lotsenstreiks in Frankreich dort gestrandet sind und daher mit sehr hoher Verspätung wieder in die Umläufe eingesetzt werden konnten. Er hatte es aber dann doch geschafft die Luftaufsicht zu überreden, dass wir früher starten. So gegen 21.30 Uhr ging es doch endlich los. Er kündigt uns aber einen unruhigen Start an, so lege ich mir mal sicherheitshalber den Beutel bereit.



The pilot came out and apologized personally face to face to his guests and told that they lost their slot and needed to wait until 22.00 hrs before they could get a new one. He explained that due to sky guides' strike in France some of the aircraft stranded in France and could only return in their rotations with some delays. But they could convince the German air authorities to let us leave earlier. Around 21.30 hrs we finally made it in the air. He announced us a very bumpy start, and so I prepared myself with the motion sickness bag.

We just started to move on the runway, and it began to become windy and rainy.



Kaum rollen wir an und schon fängt der Wind und der Regen an.

Sicherheitshalber kündigt die Kabinencrew an, dass es keine Heißgetränke geben wird. Ärgerlich, weil ich einen Kaffee für die Weiterfahrt gebraucht hätte.



For safety reason the cabin crew announced that there will be no hot beverages available. Somehow angry as I need some coffee for my ongoing ride.

When we moved above the clouds, it was calm again.



Als wir die Wolkendecke durchstoßen, ist aber alles wieder ruhig.

Dann gibt es doch Service.

Ich habe zwar keine Ahnung, was ich als Motiv habe, aber jeder von uns hat ein anderes Motiv. Und Kaffee gibt es dann doch...



I had no idea which picture I got as each of us had a different one. But we got some coffee finally.

And we had a beautiful sunset around the corner.



Und einen schönen Sonnenuntergang vorne um die Ecke.
