Das Frühstück in einem amerikanischen Holiday Inn Express...Für den mitteleuropäischen Gaumen ist nicht so das richtige dabei. Es dient zum Überleben. Aber ein Genuss ist es nicht und es ist kostenlos.
The breakfast in an American Holiday Inn Express... Not really something offered for the Central European pallet. It worked to survive. But it was not a real enjoyment, but it was complimentary.Since my father could not be here, I thought, that a connection on FaceTime might be beneficial. So they could chat for a few minutes.
Da mein Vater nicht hier sein kann, denke ich, dass eine FaceTime-Verbindung vielleicht ganz nett sein könnte. So können sie sich ein paar Minuten unterhalten.Danach geht es zu dem Landsitz eines weiteren Schulfreundes, das als Veranstaltungsort für Hochzeiten und andere Feierlichkeiten vermarktet wird: Yin Ranch. Da wir in Deutschland im Freundeskreis niemand vergleichbares haben, den wir schon mal besucht haben: wir kommen uns ein wenig vor, als wenn wir die Southfork Ranch der Ewings aus "Dallas" besuchen. Da wir eine Tasche von Princess mitführen, erzählen sie mir, dass sie schon mal für eine Tagung ein Teil eines Princess-Schiffs gechartert haben. Warum weiß ich davon nichts? Entweder mein Vater hat es mir wissentlich oder unwissentlich verschwiegen, weil er davon ausgeht, dass ich eh nicht dabei gewesen wäre und bei den bisherigen Kongressen habe ich mich immer beharrlich geweigert dabei zu sein, oder er hat es erzählt und damals habe ich mich nicht für Kreuzfahrten interessiert. Auf jeden sind wir beeindruckt und ich freue mich, dass mein Vater ein so geschätzter Mann ist. Seine Freunde David, C.C. und Frank behandeln uns genauso, als wenn er selbst hier wäre und nehmen uns und meine Freunde am Tisch auf.
Then we headed for a manor of another school friend which was rented as venues for weddings and other festivities: Yin Ranch. As we did not have any friends in such circles, whom we visited before: for us it was like a visit at the Southfork Ranch of the Ewings in "Dallas". As we carried a bag of Princess with us, they told me that had a partial charter of a Princess-Ship and had a convention on. How does it come that I had no knowledge of it? It might be that my father did not tell me knowingly or unknowingly because he expected that would not join anyway since I always declined to join his conventions, or maybe he told, and at that time I was not interested in any cruises. Anyhow, we were impressed, and I was happy to learn that my father was a person with a lot of appreciation. His friends David, C.C., and Frank treated my friends and me the same as he would show up himself and took my friends and me to their table.We headed for Stockton, CA. In California, you need to turn on your lights also during the daytime. A typical landscape like we knew from US movies.
Weiter geht es Richtung Stockton. In Kalifornien muss man auch tagsüber mit Licht fahren. Typische Landschaft, wie man sie aus US-Filmen her kennt.Wir steigen wieder im Holiday Inn Express Stockton Southeast ab. Offensichtlich ist unser Hotel heute tagsüber von Vacaville nach Stockhon umgezogen. Es sieht gleich aus: wozu haben wir alles einpackt, in den Kofferraum gestaut und wieder ausgepackt? Hätten wir ja direkt alles im Zimmer lassen können.
We stayed again at Holiday Inn Express Stockton Southeast. Obviously, our hotel was moved during the daytime from Vacaville, CA to Stockton. It looked exactly the same: why did we pack everything, moved into the trunk and unpack again here? We could have left it right in our room.Our very first cruise took us on LILI MARLEEN 2006 (former CUNARD COUNTESS). In St. Petersburg, Russia we met Cissandra again. But we knew here since the late 80s/early 90s. Then pianist in the Astoria-Hotel (see NORWEGIAN GETAWAY 2017). She was also pianist on the last world cruise on CANBERRA (only something for Hardcore-Fans of British cruise ships). I got a list of songs, Bar-Pianists loved to play for their guests. On QUEEN MARY 2 2014 it was confirmed: all my music pieces were performed and commented "My favorite! Where do you know?". To the anger of the other guests with requests, which were played in a smaller part. She helped us to buy something. And we went to Sizzler to have dinner. Something new to us: you need to decide and pay already with the cashier before you were taken to the table. Also new: if you choose to pay with credit card and to add the tip you get the tip in cash to hand it to your waiter. The perfect place to get cash: With revenue of 15.00 USD you tell them to tip 100.00 USD. You get 100.00 USD for tipping in cash, and you give your waiter 3.00 USD. For 97.00 USD you could get cash without paying a fee at the ATM. Could someone be so sweet and try this for me and tell me if it would work?
Unsere allererste Kreuzfahrt führte uns auf die LILI MARLEEN 2006. In St. Petersburg haben wir Cissandra wiedergetroffen. Damals Pianistin im Astoria-Hotel (siehe NORWEGIAN GETAWAY 2017). Sie war auch Pianistin auf der letzten Weltreise auf der CANBERRA (nur etwas für Hardcore-Fans britischer Kreuzfahrtschiffe). Von ihr habe ich eine Liste der Musikstücke, die Bar-Pianisten gerne für ihre Gäste spielen. Auf der QUEEN MARY 2 2014 wurde das bestätigt: meine Wünsche wurden alle gespielt und mit "Mein Lieblingsstück! Woher kennen Sie das nur?" quittiert. Sehr zum Ärger der anderen Bargäste, deren Stücke im geringeren Umfang gespielt wurden. Sie hilft uns beim Einkaufen. Und wir gehen zu Sizzler zum Abendessen. Etwas neu für uns: man muss an der Kasse bereits entscheiden und bezahlen, bevor an einen Tisch geführt wird. Auch neu: wenn man sich dafür entscheidet, beim Bezahlen mit Kreditkarte das Trinkgeld draufzuschlagen, bekommt man das Trinkgeld in bar, um es der Bedienung nach dem Essen zu geben. Ein perfekter Ort, um sich Bargeld zu beschaffen: Bei einem Umsatz von 15,00 USD sagt man, dass man gerne 100,00 USD Trinkgeld geben will. Man bekommt 100,00 USD Trinkgeld in bar ausbezahlt und gibt der Bedienung davon 3,00 USD. Für 97,00 USD hat man also Bargeld beschafft, ohne dass man eine Gebühr am Geldautomaten entrichten musste.
