Tag/Day 7 auf der/on SKY PRINCESS in Cherbourg-Octeville, France

Bevor die Reise zu Ende ist, muss ich doch einen Pancake und vor allem einen French Toast essen. Und sie hätten auch den Roggentoast mit Kümmel für mich.



Before the trip is over, I absolutely have to eat a pancake and, above all, some French toast. And they also have rye toast with caraway seeds for me.



Auch hier waren wir schon mal: mit der VENTURA 2018.

Our driver then and now: Pascal. We did our homework. Cherbourg isn't Paris: you can't just pull up to the side of the road and hail a taxi here. And certainly not a large one on a Sunday. Other cruise passengers envy us for having a taxi. But we did our homework, or rather, Pascal did. We're too early: many attractions aren't even open yet, but Pascal understood perfectly that I was looking for something relaxing and not strenuous.



Unser Fahrer damals und heute: Pascal. Wir haben unsere Hausaufgaben gemacht. Cherbourg ist nicht Paris: Hier geht man nicht einfach zum Straßenrand und winkt sich eines. Und schon gar nicht für ein Großraumtaxi an einem Sonntag. Wir werden von anderen Kreuzfahrern beneidet, weil wir ein Taxi haben. Aber wir haben ja unsere Hausaufgaben gemacht bzw. Pascal hat die Hausaufgaben gemacht. Wir sind nämlich zu früh: viele Attraktionen haben noch gar nicht geöffnet, aber Pascal hat mich sehr gut verstanden, dass ich etwas ruhiges und nichts anstrengendes gesucht habe.





So fahren wir nach La Hague. Ein schönes Dorf.

There's also the Botanical Garden Vauville here, which isn't open yet. But Pascal happens to know the owner, so we're allowed in on our own. Pascal is an avid photographer and takes the opportunity to take some photos for his projects in peace. It's perfect for my mother. A long drive and a strenuous climb to Mont-Saint-Michel would have been a bit too much for her. We'd already been there before we went on QUEEN VICTORIA 2022, but even that was quite tiring for us.



Hier ist auch der Botanischer Garten Vauville, der noch gar nicht auf hat. Aber Pascal kennt zufällig den Besitzer und so dürfen wir selbstständig rein. Pascal ist begeisterter Fotograf und nutzt die Gelegenheit, für seine Projekte in Ruhe zu fotografieren. Für meine Mutter ist es genau das Richtige. Eine lange Fahrt und ein mühsamer Aufstieg zum Mont-Saint-Michel wären doch etwas zu viel für sie gewesen. Wir waren ja schon mal da, bevor es auf die QUEEN VICTORIA 2022 ging, aber das war ja schon für uns sehr anstrengend.

In Treauville halten nochmals an einem schönen Strand. Hier sind auch ein paar Gleitschirmflieger unterwegs. Wir laufen ein Stück entlang der Mole. Der Wind und die Sonne tun uns gut. Ich spiele auf meinem iPhone "La Mer" von Charles Trenet ab und singe dazu. Pascal singt mit.



We stop again at a beautiful beach in Treauville. There are also a few paragliders flying around. We walk a little way along the pier. The wind and the sun feel good. I play "La Mer" by Charles Trenet on my iPhone and sing along. Pascal joins in.

We continue to Flamanville. There's another beautiful castle there, which is currently a bit of a lost place, as it needs a new owner to restore it. Unfortunately, part of the grounds is closed. However, the castle pond is used for fishing competitions.



Wir fahren weiter nach Flamanville. Hier gibt es noch ein schönes Schloss, das im Moment allerdings ein Lost Place ist, weil es einen neuen Besitzer braucht, der es wieder auf Vordermann bringt. Ein Teil der Außenanlagen ist leider geschlossen. Aber der Schlossteich wird für Angelwettbewerbe genutzt.

Wir gehen noch in die Kirche und so beenden wir mit einem perfekten Ausflug den Landgang, weil wir noch ein wenig Zeit zum Packen brauchen. Morgen ist Ausschiffung.



We're going to church, and that's how we'll end our shore leave with a perfect outing, because we still need a little time to pack. Disembarkation is tomorrow.

For lunch, I have American jelly: Jell-O.

Noch genieße ich die Sonne, aber ich bin auch schon irgendwie traurig, dass diese Familienreise bald endet.



I'm still enjoying the sun, but I'm also feeling a bit sad that this family trip is coming to an end soon.



Eine große Überraschung. Nicht kennen wir unsere Reise auf der ISLAND PRINCESS 2013. Er hat auf Facebook gesehen, dass ich an Bord bin, und wollte zumindest kurz mal guten Tag sagen.



A big surprise. We didn't know about our trip on the ISLAND PRINCESS 2013. He saw on Facebook that I was on board and wanted to say at least hello.

Once again, we went to the Captain's Circle Platinum and Elite Lounge.

Noch einmal zum "Friends of Dorothy"-Treffen. Das fand jeden Abend im Take Five statt und es war eine sehr angenehme Runde. Wir verabschieden uns auch von David und sind schon gespannt, wann sich unsere Wege wieder kreuzen. Die Welt der Kreuzfahrer ist klein.



Back to the "Friends of Dorothy" get-together. It took place every evening at Take Five, and the group was very pleasant. We also said goodbye to David and are already looking forward to when our paths will cross again. It's a small world for cruisers.

One last dinner. And what do we do starting tomorrow?



Noch ein letztes Abendessen. Und was machen wir ab morgen?

Es wird auch Zeit, sich vom Bar-Manager Neik zu verabschieden. Obwohl eigentlich schon um 23:00 Uhr geschlossen ist: ich bekomme von Thulani und Kamlesh noch einen letzten Iced Cappuccino lactosefrei mit etwas Zuckersirup gemacht.



It's also time to say goodbye to the bar manager, Neik. Although they're officially closed at 23:00 hrs, Thulani and Kamlesh make me one last lactose-free iced cappuccino with a little sugar syrup.



Mit der Rückkehr nach Southampton müssen die Uhren wieder umgestellt werden. Aber Kapitän Heikki versteht die Probleme eines iPhone-Nutzers: Er nennt direkt die Zeitzone, auf die man umstellen muss.



Upon returning to Southampton, the clocks need to be changed again. But Captain Heikki understands the problems of an iPhone user: he directly states the time zone one needs to switch to.
