Seetag/Day at Sea 2 auf der/on REGAL PRINCESS

Was ich sehr bei der ROYAL PRINCESS (und den Schwesternschiffe) schätze: Das International Café: es gibt hier rund um die Uhr etwas zu essen. So bekomme ich auch eine Kleinigkeit bereits zu einer sehr frühen Uhrzeit. Und auch gibt es an Bord Clamato: und wenn ich Clamato bestelle, dann bekomme ich auch Clamato.



I appreciate the ROYAL PRINCESS (and the sister ships): The International Café: there is something to eat here around the clock. So I get a little something at a very early hour. And there is also Clamato on board: and if I order Clamato, I get Clamato.

We are still in Barcelona, Spain, when I wake up. We have already been informed that we will not be able to make it to Gibraltar as we are awaiting the port's closure there. Instead, we're going to Valencia, Spain. As it is much closer than Gibraltar, one can afford to wait for calmer weather and not leave Barcelona until the early hours of the morning.



Wir liegen noch in Barcelona, als ich aufwache. Wir wurden bereits informiert, dass wir nicht nach Gibraltar schaffen werden, da wir dort die Schließung des Hafens erwarten. Stattdessen geht es für uns nach Valencia. Da es sehr viel näher ist als Gibraltar, kann man es sich leisten, auf ruhigeres Wetter zu warten und erst in den frühen Morgenstunden Barcelona zu verlassen.

Da wir noch nie in Valencia waren, ist das für uns in Ordnung. Bevor ich aber etwas buche: wollte ich zunächst noch die Wetterprognosen abwarten.

So far, there has still been no reply regarding my medallion. The previously promised call never came. And since nothing is running on the app yet, try out the screens in the stairwells and public decks. My birthday is still being celebrated, even though it's already over. I like that. I make all the bookings here: it works. I can't see it on the app yet.



Bisher gab es immer noch keine Rückantwort bezüglich meiner Medallion. Der bislang versprochene Anruf ist ausgeblieben. Und da an der App ja auch noch nichts läuft, probiere die Bildschirme in den Treppenhäusern und öffentlichen Decks aus. Sehr schön: mein Geburtstag wird immer noch gefeiert, obwohl dieser schon vorbei ist. Mir gefällt das. Ich nehme hier alle Buchungen vor: das klappt dann. Nur auf der App sehen kann ich es noch nicht.

Ich wusste von einem Facebook-Crew-Freund, dass die REGAL PRINCESS auf dem Weg von Fort Lauderdale nach Europa war und alles in Ordnung ist: Dexter. Ich glaube, dass ich ihn von der GRAND PRINCESS 2018 kenne. Aber im Archiv findet ich nichts. Er ist dieses Mal für den nächtlichen Kabinenservice zuständig: hat einen Vorteil: er darf fast überall an Land! Daher seine Bilder von den Häfen im Zulauf auf Barcelona haben mich sehr beruhigt. Wenn es sie nicht gegeben hätte: ich hätte Panik bekommen. Darf das Schiff wegen Covid-19 den Hafen nicht mehr anlaufen? Oder wurde die Europa-Saison kurzfristig abgesagt? Daher habe ich mich sehr über Dexters Bilder gefreut: ich wusste alles wird gut. Der Verzicht auf soziale Kontakte im Vorfeld der Kreuzfahrt, damit wir bloß nicht positiv getestet werden, war es Wert, dass wir uns zurückgehalten haben. Und wir konnten Dexter bitten einiges für uns an Bord zu klären, weil Princess selbst ja wenig an Land wusste.



I knew from a Facebook crew friend that the REGAL PRINCESS was en route from Fort Lauderdale to Europe, and all was well: Dexter. I think I know him from GRAND PRINCESS 2018. But I can't find anything in the archive. This time he is responsible for the nightly cabin service: he has one advantage: he can go almost anywhere on land! So his pictures of the ports approaching Barcelona put me at ease. If it hadn't existed, I would have panicked. Is the ship no longer allowed to call at the port because of Covid-19? Or was the European season canceled at short notice? I was pleased about Dexter's pictures: I knew everything would be fine. Forgoing social contacts in the run-up to the cruise so that we wouldn't test positive was worth holding back. And we were able to ask Dexter to sort things out for us on board since Princess herself didn't know much on land.

What always fascinates me about Princess are their atriums. Even with natural water instead of just milk Plexiglas plates. The only thing I don't understand is the glass elevators: you can hardly see anything there.



Was mich bei Princess immer wieder fasziniert, sind deren Atriums. Sogar mit echtem Wasser statt bloß Milch-Plexiglas-Platten. Nur die gläsernen Fahrstühle verstehe ich nicht: Man sieht dort kaum etwas.

Every morning, we test ourselves in the cabin and have the corresponding self-tests with us.



Wir testen uns jeden Morgen selbst in der Kabine und haben die entsprechenden Selbsttests mit.

Wenn an Bord nicht getestet wird, dann müssen wir es selbst tun. Zum Glück ist aber bis zum Ende der Reise alles negativ.

We also bought nasal rinse in Barcelona to make it as hard as possible for the virus. The virus does not have it so easy with intact, healthy mucous membranes!



Wir haben auch noch Nasenspülung in Barcelona gekauft, um des dem Virus so schwer wie möglich zu machen. Bei intakten, gesunden Schleimhäuten hat es der Virus nicht so einfach!

Es wird ja "nur empfohlen" die Maske anzuziehen.

We have enough FFP-2 masks with us and wear them indoors, just like the previous trips since the pandemic on the MSC SEASIDE 2021, AIDAluna 2021, MSC MAGNIFICA 2021, NORWEGIAN JADE 2021, and QUEEN MARY 2 2022. And also in different colors: to match the outfit.



Wir haben genügend FFP-2 Masken mit und tragen sie in den Innenräumen, so wie bei den bisherigen Fahrten seit der Pandemie auf der MSC SEASIDE 2021, AIDAluna 2021, MSC MAGNIFICA 2021, NORWEGIAN JADE 2021 und QUEEN MARY 2 2022 auch. Und auch in verschiedenen Farben: passend zum Outfit.

Unser Kabinensteward Michael: auch jemand, den man Mister Cellophan nennen müsste! Du hast ja keine drei Minuten die Kabine verlassen und hast eine Kleinigkeit in der Kabine vergessen: schon ist alles sauber. Der ist immer sehr schnell und gründlich. Im Laufe des Tages kommt der Anruf, dass sie immer noch meine Medallions suchen. Ich lasse meinen Smoking aufbügeln. Und sie wollen jetzt schon wissen, wie und wann wir Gedenken sie wieder verlassen zu wollen. Wir sind ja kaum an Bord!



Our cabin steward Michael: is also someone you should call Mister Cellophane! You left the cabin in less than three minutes and forgot a little thing in the stateroom: everything was already clean. We go to breakfast: this is one of Princess' weaker disciplines. They always have specials that change daily. But the primary offerings aren't as extensive as the others, and there are a few items you'd better never go for Poached eggs. You can see it in Bruno's face. But since I took out a subscription yesterday, I'm getting Congee as a "special order" this morning. They do it really well and, unfortunately, far too much: It would have been enough for a family of four this morning. I bridge the waiting time with Peter Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" by playing the dying swan! Is it even appropriate to play this music currently? Yes - first of all, Peter Tchaikovsky has hardly any cause for the conflict. Music connects and soothes. One enjoys the beauty of music because it is beautiful, not because the composer has a specific nationality! Luckily I'm sitting on the bench and therefore can't get up to the corresponding jump and fly. The glitter of the last New Year's Eve party is always on the benches. You sit very low on the benches. I really need a booster seat. Later I observed that hardcore guests actually bring seat cushions with them. Wir gehen zum Frühstück: das gehört zu den schwächeren Disziplinen von Princess. Sie haben immer täglich wechselnde Specials. Aber das Grundangebot ist im Gegensatz zu den anderen nicht so umfangreich und es gibt ein paar Sachen, die man besser niemals nehmen sollte: Pochierte Eier. Man sieht es Bruno im Gesicht an. Da ich aber gestern direkt ein Abonnement abgeschlossen habe, bekomme ich heute Morgen als "Special Order" Congee. Das machen sie ganz toll und leider auch viel zu viel: Es hätte für eine vierköpfige Familie heute Morgen gereicht. Die Wartezeit überbrücke ich mit Peter Tschaikowskis "Schwanensee" in dem ich solange den sterbenden Schwan spiele! Ist das überhaupt angemessen diese Musik aktuell zu spielen? Ja - zunächst einmal Peter Tschaikowski hat ja wohl kaum Verursacher des Konflikt. Musik verbindet und beruhigt. An der Schönheit von Musik erfreut man sich, weil sie schön ist, und nicht weil der Komponist eine gewisse Nationalität hat! Ich sitze zum Glück auf der Bank und kann mich daher nicht zum entsprechenden Sprung erheben und fliegen. Überall liegt der Glitzer der letzten Silvesterparty immer noch auf den Bänken. Man sitzt auf den Bänken sehr tief. Ich bräuchte eigentlich eine Kindersitzerhöhung. Später beobachte ich, dass Hardcore-Gäste sich tatsächlich auch mal Sitzkissen mitbringen. Die REGAL PRINCESS kommt ja bald in die Werft um für die CBS The Real Love Boat-Dating Show schön gemacht zu werden. Schöner Service Jan und Chris.

Aber den "Special Special Order" gab es bislang nur auf der ISLAND PRINCESS 2013: als Hubi kurzerhand das Congee aus der Crew Mess holen ließ, statt es für mich frisch zu kochen oder aus dem Horizon Court zu holen.

Hold it like there are rumors and myths, but they are part and parcel of a great trip!



Ich bin mir sicher, dass auf der I-95 (Hauptgang im Crew Bereich), "Most Wanted"-Bilder von mir hängen. "Wenn ihr diesem Passagier begegnet: NIEMALS Congee aus der Crew Mess und NIEMALS ein Sofa in dem Atrium stehen lassen, auf dem er schlafen kann. Wenn wir wieder auf Facebook Bilder von ihm finden: mit Hühnerbeinen, die aus dem Congee gucken oder mit Bettzeug im Atrium: Diejenigen werden fristlos gefeuert und im Rettungsboot ausgesetzt! Wie gesagt: ich habe sieben Mal Hühnerfleisch bekommen, statt Hühnergerippe. Seit dem bilde ich mir ein: das leckerste Essen bekommt bestimmt die Crew und ich darf nicht in die Crew Mess! So halten sich Gerüchte und Mythen. Die gehören aber zu einer schönen Reise dazu!

Eine schöne Sache hier auf der REGAL PRINCESS: Fast-Normalität was soziale Treffen betrifft. Und es fand sogar wieder ein schönes cruisecritic.com-Meet and Greet statt! Es war allerdings etwas schwierig mit der Zentrale von Princess in Kontakt zu kommen. Meine 50 Freiminuten wurden dafür verbraucht. Aber dann ging das ganze sehr schnell. Ich bekam einen Termin- und Ortsvorschlag sowie einen lokalen Kontakt an Bord, der sich um alles kümmert. Bereits am Einschiffungstag hat sich Loyalty- und Eventmanagerin Patrizia vorgestellt und mir alles erläutert und mir Ihre Hilfe angeboten. Formell muss ich eine Einladung an die Schiffsoffiziere formulieren. Aber im Gespräch lotet das Patrizia aus und sie kümmert sich um alles. Wegen Covid-19 sagt sie mir jedoch, dass der Kapitän keinesfalls an solcherlei Veranstaltungen derzeit teilnimmt. Schade. Aber es ist so wie es ist und es ist sehr viel mehr, als ich zuletzt auf der NORWEGIAN JADE 2021 bekommen habe. Zum Treffen kamen noch Business and Brand Director Claire, Entertainment Director Madi, Hotel General Manager Ralph und sein Vertreter David, sowie Food and Beverage Director Steven. Bei den Teilnehmern gab es zwei Probleme: die Zeitumstellung heute Nacht und viele haben sich ja bereits auf der Transatlantik getroffen und haben daher wenig Interesse die neuen in Barcelona kennenzulernen. Aber dennoch war es eine sehr nette Runde. Einige haben wir noch unterwegs getroffen und uns ausgetauscht. Und jemand hat mir 2-USD-Noten besorgt. Doch - das hat auch wieder Spaß gemacht. Die beste Nachricht kam jedoch vom Kapitän, der schon wusste, warum er nicht kommt. Er hat gerade verkündet. Es geht doch nicht nach Valencia, sondern nach Malaga. Aber da waren jetzt die Transatlantik-Passagiere erfreut: für sie fiel bereits witterungsbedingt Cartagena und Malaga aus. Wir waren zwar zuletzt auf der NORWEGIAN SPIRIT 2018 da, aber was soll es: wenn das Wetter gut ist, dann können wir ja ein wenig dort spazieren gehen. Ich erkläre den anderen kurzerhand, wie man in die Stadt kommt.

We were last there at the NORWEGIAN SPIRIT 2018, but what's the point: if the weather is good, we can go for a walk there. I quickly explain to the others how to get to the city.

It's going to be lunch. I like what's on offer: typically American: soups, salads, sandwiches... I like it just as much.



Es geht zum Mittagessen. Mir gefällt das Angebot: typisch amerikanisch: Süppchen, Salätchen, Schnittchen... Ich mag es genauso.

Später ärgere ich mich allerdings grün und blau als ich das Angebot im Horizon Court sehe: Hier gibt es den Pub-Lunch. Die Zeiten ändern sich. Selbstbedienung ist nicht erlaubt. Außer vorportionierte Teller und Schalen: die darf man sich selbst nehmen.

I'm getting old! Ever since I was diagnosed with impingement syndrome (precursor to arthrosis), I have had pain in my shoulders and thighs. I actively wanted to do something about it and have recently returned to self-defense in Mannheim and aqua fitness in Darmstadt. I also do yoga in Frankfurt. But only in individual lessons, because she can't do everything like the others in the course and doesn't want to stop her. So I book a private yoga session with my personal trainer Nemanja on board. I feel excellent. I can even learn new things. It's not that easy to keep your balance when the ground vibrates, and the ship is swaying. Especially if you want to meditate or Hong Kong Chinese have to make a loud phone call next to you. I feel a lot better after a total of three sessions!



Ich werde alt! Seit dem bei mir ein Impingement-Syndrom (Vorstufe einer Athrose) festgestellt wurde, habe ich Schmerzen an meinen Schultern und Oberschenkeln. Ich wollte selbst aktiv etwas dagegen tun und bin seit kurzem wieder bei der Selbstverteidigung in Mannheim und beim Aqua-Fitness in Darmstadt. Zusätzlich mache ich in Frankfurt noch Yoga. Allerdings nur in Einzelstunden, weil nicht alles so machen kann, wie die anderen im Kurs und sie nicht aufhalten will. So buche ich mir an Bord private Yoga-Session mit meinem Personal Trainer Nemanja. Es tut mir sehr gut. Ich kann sogar neue Sachen lernen. Gar nicht mal so einfach, wenn der Boden vibriert und das Schiff schwankt die Balance zu halten. Speziell wenn man meditieren will oder Hong Kong-Chinesen neben einem lauthals telefonieren müssen. Ich fühle mich nach insgesamt drei Sitzungen sehr viel besser!

Nachmittags gehe ich spazieren und fotografieren. Es ist doch immer wieder schön, wenn die Sonne scheint und die Seeluft bläst. Und ich überzeuge mich: nein - ich möchte keine Kabine im Bereich des Skywalks. Nur am Trident Grill bin ich enttäuscht: es gibt die Bratwurst nicht mehr im Angebot.



In the afternoon I go for a walk and take photos. It's always lovely when the sun is shining, and the sea air is blowing. And I convince myself: no - I don't want a cabin in the skywalk area. The only thing I'm disappointed with is the Trident Grill: the bratwurst is no longer on offer.

My tuxedo is back from the ironing in time. Finally, my Boss tuxedo, which Bekim von Engelhorn chose for me, is simply a joy. And, of course, with a matching FFP-2 mask in black.



Mein Smoking ist rechtzeitig zurück vom Bügeln. Endlich mal wieder meinen Boss-Smoking, den mir Bekim von Engelhorn ausgesucht hat. Das macht einfach Spaß. Und natürlich mit passender FFP-2-Maske in schwarz.







It's off to the first gala dinner. The pre-bookings in the Medallion app are probably intended more as a guide for the restaurant staff. Not much happens if you're not on time. The food was good, and we had excellent service with Esmail and Jason. Before that, however, something happened, which Restaurant Manager Adrian quickly forgot. This is one of Princess' particular strengths: if something happens, they do everything they can to ensure that you don't disembark and go home and tell them how bad it was on board. No - that has always been the case so far: everything is always done immediately so that it doesn't happen again, and, above all, they always think of something charming to calm you down again. Anything can occur where there are people. But it is dealing with problems that make Princess strong and keeps me coming back.



Es geht zum ersten Gala-Dinner. Die Vorbuchungen in der Medallion-App sind wohl eher als Orientierung für das Personal im Restaurant gedacht. Es passiert nicht allzuviel, wenn nicht pünktlich ist. Das Essen war gut. Insbesondere meine Ente à l'Orange. Wir hatten einen tollen Service erlebt mit Esmail und Jason. Zuvor ist allerdings etwas passiert, was jedoch Restaurant Manager Adrian sehr schnell vergessen macht. Das ist eine besondere Stärke von Princess: wenn etwas passiert, tun sie alles, damit man nicht von Bord geht und zu Hause erzählt, wie schlimm es an Bord war. Nein - das war bislang immer der Fall: es wird immer sofort alles gemacht, damit es nicht wieder passiert und vor allem, sie überlegen sich immer etwas sehr nettes, damit man sich wieder beruhigt. Wo Menschen sind, da kann nun mal etwas passieren. Aber es eben der Umgang mit Problemen, der Princess stark macht und mich immer wieder kommen lässt.

Ich weiss aber, dass Ereignisse in der Schiffsführung immer diskutiert werden. Aber sie dürfen mir ruhig glauben. Auf der REGAL PRINCESS war ich absolut ruhig und habe mich nicht aufgeregt. Ich mache ja zum Glück Yoga. Wenn ich mich "aufrege" endet das so, wie auf der OCEAN PRINCESS 2010: dann tauche ich mit meinem Bettzeug in der Lobby auf!

When something happened at DIAMOND PRINCESS 2016, and I was asked how to make friends with me to "forget" about it, all I asked for was a small towel as a souvenir of the amazing onboard Izumi Onzen (Japanese bath) requested. I'm not quite "normal", but absolutely "harmless". There are usually crew parties when I disembark.



Und ich bin ein ganz "billiger" Kunde. Ich trinke keinen Alkohol und das obwohl ich ein Getränkepaket habe. Deswegen kommen sie mit einer Flasche Wein nicht weiter. Als etwas auf der DIAMOND PRINCESS 2016 passiert ist, und man mich fragte, womit man mir eine Freunde machen kann, damit ich es wieder "vergesse", habe ich lediglich um ein kleines Handtuch als Souvinir an den tollen Izumi Onzen (japanisches Bad) an Bord gebeten. Ich bin zwar nicht ganz "normal", aber absolut "harmlos". Normalerweise gibt es immer Crew-Parties, wenn ich wieder ausschiffe.

Wir gehen wieder zum Friends of Dorothy-Treffen. Aber die meisten treffen wir mittlerweile außerhalb der offiziellen Veranstaltung. Da es immer noch nicht mit den Barkarten in der Medallion App klappt, lassen wir uns die Karte geben.

I'll retake my cocktail. The choice of non-alcoholic cocktails is not significant.



Ich nehme mir wieder meinen Cocktail. Die Auswahl ist nicht groß an alkoholfreien Cocktails.

Am Schluss des Abends gibt es die Produktionsshow "Bravo": ganz nach meinem Geschmack. Von jedem etwas - bloß kein Variete. Tolle Sänger und Tänzer. Und auch sehr schön "L'Amour est un Oiseau rebelle" aus Carmen - nach dem wir erst vor wenigen Tagen in Carmen in Düsseldorf waren und gerne an die Aufenthalte in Sevilla denken: KONINGSDAM 2016 und NORWEGIAN SPIRIT 2018. Es gab aber auch Stücke von Queen oder Adele. Ein sehr schöner Abend geht zu Ende. Kreuzfahrtdirektor Aaron verschiedet uns in die Nacht.



At the end of the evening there is the production show "Bravo": just the way I like it. Something from everyone - just no variety. Great singers and dancers. And also very nice "L'Amour est un Oiseau rebelle" from Carmen - after we were in Carmen in Düsseldorf just a few days ago and liked to think about the stays in Seville: KONINGSDAM 2016 and NORWEGIAN SPIRIT 2018. But there were also pieces by Queen or Adele. A lovely evening comes to an end. Cruise director Aaron sees us off into the night.
