Tag/Day 5.15 auf der/on OCEAN PRINCESS in Barcelona, Spain

As nice as the day was so far as bad it will turn around after 22.00 hrs. The movements became stronger. We got the Princess Pattern which expected us to have solid earth the next day.

When we left the cabin before dinner, we made it up to 71F. When we returned, it was only 69F. For me, it was unacceptable cold. So I went to the front desk but were sent away again that I should wait in my cabin.

After 30 minutes none showed up. I called again: the technician is not available and taking care of another cabin. Did not someone tell me? I said: no. The technician came, and our statement that only cold air came out was confirmed. He started to remove the thermostat and to fix something but no improvement. Bruno felt worse and worse as the movement became stronger and stronger. He just wanted his rest. He did not care anymore how cold it was. He only wanted to sleep. At 22.45 hrs I asked the technician if he can fix it today. He said yes but he needs to remove all the air-conditioning unit from the ceiling, and it would take a least 45 minutes. I went down to the front desk and asked for another cabin for tonight. The answer was no: they would extend their apology, and I need to sleep in my cabin no matter how cold it was. I asked for a quick solution as the front desk would close soon. They offered me additional blankets and told me that a Night Manager is available. They said that there is always notice on the desk which I need to read how to reach him. When I said that there was none two days ago, I was told that I might have overseen it. If they are competent then in putting oil into an open fire. They refused to call a supervisor and sent me away.

When I returned Bruno just want to sleep. We notified that we did not wish any repair anymore the night. But the technician returned because his tools were still in our cabin.

He offered us to tape the outlet to stop the ventilation. Before he closed the last gap all real rules started to work: The wind started to whistle through the last open gaps, and they understood that we cannot now anymore because of the whistle. So they open a little bit. But not enough for the air. During the night the air looked in a way with all the pressure just cold and strong on my face. I waked up at 02:00 hrs with pain in my frontal sinus.

The drawer at the top cannot stop and hit with every movement the door of the closet.

But we still had our own tape so I started to fix the drawers to avoid that we can hear every movement in the closet.

Bruno asked me to get out the day covers to build himself an igloo.

The movements reached the climax. Ocassionally our windows were washed...

I could not stay any longer in cour cabin and go down. There is no notice how to reach the Night Manager. But I was lucky to see where the back office was.

Here it was not breezy. Here it was not cold and anyway I did not care. I liked to sleep there and just wanted to notify the Night Manager that I would sleep there - Alternatives: Bed of the Night Manager (was not accepted), in the hospital (was not accepted either), in the spa area (was not accepted either) or in a conference room (should not exist on this ship). But I was not allowed to sleep in the public area. I said that I did not care and asked the Night Manager to sleep in my cabin and see if it was acceptable.

No matter how light it is: I laid down as the Night Manager walked away for some consultation.

Ganz weit vorne...

Few minutes later: they found a cabin for this night for me. Far forward...

Cabin 4001... for guest artists and technicians who will board tomorrow in Nice.

It was much more interesting to see all incidents through the window. When do you have force 8 and 20 feet high waves? It was impossible anyway to sleep here as you were close to the door to the engine and crew rooms and you hear a lot of activities.

Finally a mattress I could sleep on... (Might sound stupid but I was able to sleep in very quickly...)

When a wave hit us I woke up because of my camera slide away from the night table. Luckily it was too narrow to arrive on the floor.

A magnet was missing. So the door swings all the time with every movement.

So I used the chance to see that everything was here like it supposed to be like the fridge in the closet with the ventilation.

I noted the name of the steward who might not expect any overnight-guests here.

He was wondering that there was a "Service please"-sign outside. I did not want him to get problems because he might not know that someone stayed there overnight and the next guest might have complaints. So I tipped him as he had extra-work and it was not his fault.

Around 04:30 hrs it was hectic in front of my cabin. It smells like chemical solutions. Later I was told that a drum of paint moved. That was the reason for the smell. I returned back to my cabin. It became a little bit warmer. I would like to remove the tape so the that the pressure of the ventilation can circulate in the cabin but due to the movements it was too dangerous to stand unsecured upright on your bed.

When I saw our bathroom I noticed everything was in the sink. As I was so overtired, I slept for a couple of hours. Either I got here an inflammation of my front sinus, or I will become "high" in 4001 because I smell all the chemical solutions... both choices were not the best choices.
