Willkommen am Bahnhof Roma S. Pietro

Welcome to the train station Roma S. Pietro

Many passengers walked away along the platform towards Civitavecchia. Looked like there is another exit.

Later we saw it should take you around the bridge, but we do not want to get there.

We went to the main exit to Terminal San Pietro.

The circles within the circles mean a center. So we follow the arrows. And then the stairs upwards.

For the return journey we remember the platforms 4 and 5 for the FR5-Commuter trains which connect Rome and Civitavecchia.

Let us see if the bus take us closer to the Vatican.

But we found out that the Bus 64 will not get us much closer to the Peter's Square.

Wow - there was a schedule display. Maybe because it was the terminal.

There are signs which should show us the way.

But there is only the fence for the subway construction site. So we cannot walk there very far, but we could see the dome of St. Peter.

But this yellow sign took us on the right way.

From yellow to brown and to the right to via Nicolo III.

At the end of the street to the left towards the Total-Fuel Station.

But do not walk towards the dome but to the right, you find a yellow sign again.

So at the fuel station to the right.

Again yellow...

Also wieder gelb...

Einfach gerade aus laufen...

Straight ahead...

And then into the subway.

It's a giant parking also for tour buses.

On the 5th floor, you find an inexpensive self-service restaurant and bars if you are not willing to pay for the overpriced food and beverages around Peter's Square. Bruno paid for a very good Cappucino just 1.00 EUR (2010), and there are very clean toilets for which you need to pay 0.50 EUR (2010).

Normally there should be also public buses available. But currently, they withdrew the stop in this terminal. We cannot read the reasons.

But it could be exciting as this are the little electric mini-buses which take you through the tiny narrow lanes.

On the other side of the subway you just arrive at Peter's Square.

Look like usual around 09:30 hrs.

The queue for the St. Peter's Basilika followed to the right...

alongside the arcades.

entlang der Arkaden...

und endet hier...

and terminated here.

If you have a look to the left to Fortress St. Angelo: you see all the HoHo-Buses on the left side.

But we wanted to go to the Vatican Museum: you need another 15-20 minutes from here... right we saw a booth Vatican no line: maybe we need this for the next time.

Behind the arcades, we continued.

To avoid that you walk all the way for nothing you can see here when it is open.

Here we see the trams and buses and need to check for the next time how we get to this square.

Here tour guides were offering us tours without queuing.

But we have to continue all the way alongside this wall...

The queue turned around the corner...

and went on and on and on...

On the last section there was an express-lane for all who must not queue like us who had reserved tours booked on the museum's website. Unfortunately, tour guides misused the lane to keep their groups busy. Further two groups attracted our attention: Student groups who need to walk side by side and continue to chat without vacant any space to pass. And same with older German handicapped people who were wondering what they were not taken immediately to see the Pope against presentation of the handicap-pass and who blocked the same way the express-lane.

But we were lucky that we finally made it up the hill.

To the right you find the booked group tours. But we booked individual tours.
